GURLS was concieved in sketchbooks while Arabella was recovering in bed from multiple surgeries, and oil painting was no longer an option. Sarcastic, silly, and in a loose style that deviates from the painting she has been known for, her GURLS comment on the current state of technology, relationships, and “first world problems”.
Arabella attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA before receiving her BFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2000, and has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, she works in Cleveland, Ohio.
She has appeared in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Plain Dealer, GOOD Magazine, Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, The Harvard Gazette, SF Weekly, Scene Magazine,
Dallas Arts Review, Los Angeles Times, Snob, as well as websites Buzzfeed, CreepMachine, SupersonicElectronic, LaughingSquid, HyperAllergic, Art Business
and many more.
